Downtown Amman is a must see. At the bottom of the city’s many hills and overlooked by the magisterial Citadel, the city features Roman ruins, an impressive museum, unique mosques and souqs worth discovering.
You will spend the afternoon with our guide, exploring the Roman amphitheater and the Citadel which offer unparalleled views of the city. The magnificently restored theatre is the most impressive remnant of Roman Philadelphia (as it was formerly named) – and is the highlight of Amman for most foreign visitors. Built around 138 AD and restored in 1957, it is a must see during your visit. The views just before sunset are superb!
The area known as the Citadel sits on the highest hill in Amman, Jebel Al Qala’a (850m above sea level). It is the site of the ancient city Rabbath-Ammon, dating back to the Bronze Age, and has been a fortress for thousands of years. After breakfast, Full day visit of the beautiful Nabatean city of Petra. The archaeological site of Petra is an ancient jewel of Jordan – a series of structures and formations cut out of desert rock. The Treasury is the iconic view of Petra and probably the most striking sight of the region. Built by the Nabataeans, the area around Petra has been inhabited from as early as 7000 BC.
The Nabataeans were nomadic Arabs who invested in Petra’s proximity to the incense trade routes by establishing it as a major regional trading hub. Around 106 BC, Petra lost its independence, and the Nabataean Kingdom became a client state of the Roman Empire. The Romans renamed this region Arabia Petraea.
Our guide will make these sites come to life, as we walk our way through a siq (narrow rock clef) towards the Treasure to marvel at the spectacle, with walls soaring up to 180 meters on either side. Our guide will meticulously show us the Treasure, the old Roman road, amphitheater, and several ancient tombs.
Then it’s all up to you! Maybe climb up the Monastery – carved from a mountain summit and the site’s second beautiful façade, where you will have a magnificent view of the entire site. This is an unforgettable day – as we explore a truly unforgettable destination.
We enjoy a delectable buffet lunch at Basin restaurant, and after our visit we drive directly to Wadi Rum for check-in, oriental dinner & overnight at campsite.
